It is 2 exactly months since Erin departed our family to journey on her own path, her own new cycle of life, whatever that may be. As I pass her school, I imagine her in the sunshine on the monkey bars striving, striving to improve her movement back and forth without pausing or dropping to the ground. Or her topsy-turvy turns on the jungle gym playing with her identical twin friends. Sunday mornings have dawned crisp and bright for her soccer games where the grass has shot up, welcoming in the new season. Above Lion’s Bay in the mountains, the Enchanted Forest in her memory is growing in beauty as the creativity of its residents shape it with love and remembrance of a beautiful young girl.
Life is moving on relentlessly. The days have merged for us in a blur of flowers and meals delivered but now the drama has abated, people’s busy lives have resumed. We reach out gratefully to those who stand by us, who welcome us in to their homes, provide meals and drop us emails and texts of support and love. We hold tightly on to the beautiful memories we have created as a family. Erin’s wonder in the world, her joy in play, her creativity, her beauty in and out sustain us.
At Erin’s French immersion school, Pauline Johnson, the plans are burgeoning for the new playground for the school and local community. We have chosen this unique project to remember our daughter’s childhood delight. In appreciation of spring, new life, hope for the future in which our child has touched so many, we invite you to support part of this project. It is a fitting place to celebrate childhood, play, and indeed it is a reflection of your own children’s joy and wonder – past, present and future.
Celebrate your children - breathe in each and every moment. Hug them close; create and treasure memories; be gracious and patient in all circumstances. There is still beauty in the world.
